The Nokia phone is very popular in Nigeria and if you are an MTN subscriber and intend using your Nokia phone for mobile browsing, you definitely need to have it configured for GPRS and you can do this manually or Automatically from MTN.
To have MTN send you the settings, what you need is to
send an sms to 3888 with the text "" without the quotes.
You will later receive the settings on your mobile phone OTA which you are expected to save.
Manual configuration:
To set up GPRS on a Nokia 6230 phone manually, here is what you should do;
- Navigate to Menu-->Services-->Settings
- Select settings and enter Connection settings
- Select active settings and choose an empty one
- Go back and select Edit active service settings
- Enter the following details in that page:
Settings' name = MTN
Homepage = http://wap.mtnonline.com
Proxies = Enable
Primary proxy = 10.199.212.002
Port = 8080
Data Bearer = GPRS
- Select Bearer settings and edit the following details on that page;
GPRS access point = web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
Authentication type = normal
Login type = Automatic
Username = web
Password = web
- Go back and now you can start browsing with your MTN
* As long as you have the [G] signal showing on your phone and it is available, then you can browse with MTN on Pay as you go. If you want, you can also select any of their data plans to cut you browsing costs such as the N500 a day plan, N2500 for 30 month night plan or N10,000 a month plan.
I have included a simple video of how to do this on a Nokia 6230. It should work for most other Nokia models.
