I've initially read reports about how a US based dentist named Walter Palmer was involved in the killing of a Lion named Cecil in Zimbabwe just for the fun of it. I have to say that it's actually an evil thing and unjustified to kill an animal just for trophies or recognition and not for food since it amounts to a waste or life. What however really surprised me this morning was when I read a report on CNN about some people crying for revenge on Walter Palmer just because he killed a lion. Some were asking that Walter Palmer's life to be take away too. Is that really justified? What value do we as humans now place on human life?

Walter Palmer is first and foremost a human being and so his life as a human being is more valuable than that of animals. Sentencing him to death for the death of a lesser animal is not justified. The fact that he was reported to have paid at least $50,000 so that he may be allowed to kill the lion showed that he is at least humane and might have wanted his funds to be used in supporting the wildlife conservation from where the lion was taken.

There are many poachers in Africa who don't even pay anything to kill elephants and rhinos and yet they do get away free even though all they were looking for are just the tusks of those animals. Walter Palmer however did something a bit noble by paying to kill the lion which may sound a bit saddening but also showed one who was willing to pay compensation.

It would be morally wrong to equate the life of a lion, elephant, rhino or giraffe to the life of a human being like Walter Palmer. People who equate the life of ordinary animals to that of a human being may have lost what it means to be human.

I agree that Walter Palmer should be made to pay either in cash or kind for the life of the lion he wasted but it should not be to the extent of having his own life taken because human beings are more valuable than Lions.

People who are asking for the life of Walter Palmer on social networking sites and websites have gone too far and are only endangering the life of a valuable human being for no justifiable reason. It would have been better if they asked him to pay a financial compensation for the act rather than asking for his life. The life of a human being is priceless and incomparable to an animal that is also man-eating.

Truth is that, we are all guilty of killing animals one way or the other such as by deforestation, global warming, food and so on. Walter Palmer's life should not be endangered just for killing an animal who would not waste time in eating human beings if given the opportunity.
