There are already a lot of recharge card selling sites in Nigeria and they mostly use local payment services to accept payment from users. These sites allow people to buy virtual airtime recharge cards using any of the following platforms:
- Interswitch
- Etranzact
- VTN
- Softpurse
- Direct Bank deposit

The ones that use the above payment methods target mostly Nigerian residents but there are others which target Nigerians outside and they mostly use the following payment methods:

- Mastercard
- Visa
- Paypal
- Moneybookers

This is a good business to be doing if you are into airtime reselling and vending as it is a most sought after service for the millions of Nigerian users who have quickly embraced the GSM.

Now I have been taking a critical look at these various sellers and found out that they are missing out on important platforms which could help reduce their costs and even allow customers from within and outside Nigeria to buy from them. One of such platforms is Alertpay.
Alertpay is a global payment processor that allows users to send and receive money online in minutes. It is a Canadian based company but has a global reach and works even in most countries where Paypal does not and this includes Nigeria.
Alertpay works just like Paypal too and developers who know how to integrate Paypal to merchant websites can also do the same for Alertpay. Alerpay uses Instant Payment Notification just as Paypal and also uses EPD similar to Paypal's PDT. This mechanisms allow sellers to immediately process customer's orders, update a database and deliver the purchase items electronically.
The good thing about Alertpay for sites that sell recharge cards is that it can confirm that payment has been received and then tell your server to forward recharge pins to the registered email of your buyer using the IPN method or immediately show the pins for a few minutes for loading by the user, using the EPD method.
A lot of Nigerian sites vending recharge cards are missing a lot if they don't use Alertpay to sell. Both Nigerian residents and those resident in the UK or USA would be able to buy from your if you use AlertPay. If you used only Paypal, Nigerian residents would not be able to buy with you but if you do, they will. A

Another good thing is that Alertpay even allows holders of credit cards to buy from you and this can help reduce your credit card processing fees. For instance, If someone is in Nigeria or USA and has a Mastercard or Visa, he can still buy virtual recharge cards from your site if you use Alertpay and have enabled credit card payments.
