If you have a laptop which you frequently use, chances are that the battery's efficiency wears down over a period of time due to usage. Every laptop battery has a lifespan and the more you use yours the shorter it gets. A direct ways to simply make your laptop battery last really long is to discharge it and pack it in a box without usage but that is practically impossible except you just want to store it.
Your laptop battery can be made to last longer if you use it properly and not exert too much stress on it.

Some of the tips below can help make your laptop battery last longer than most others normally do:

1. Avoid running unnecessary programs: That your hardly use. Too many processes eventually weakens a battery

2. Always switch off your laptop when you are not using it

3. Switch off Wifi and bluetooth if you are not using it

4. Minimize heat: Avoid using your laptop in hot environment for too long. If your laptop gets too hot, you can switch it off to cool off.

5. Discharge your battery entirely: Only if you intend not using the laptop for a long time. Allowing your laptop to be switched on for about 3 hrs can effectively discharge your laptop battery. You can then unplug the battery from the laptop and store in a cool dry box.

6. Avoid overcharging: Unplug your laptop charger from the power source once if has fully charged. Most laptops tend to get fully charged after about 4 hrs.

7. Minimize external devices: Plug out things like flash drives, external plug in devices, printer cables or modems if you don't regularly use them. Removing them entirely can actually help your battery last longer.

8. Hibernate rather than standby: Use hibernate if you intend being away from your laptop for a longer time. 1hr can count as a long time and hibernating can even help you still start from where you stopped and booting is faster. Standby still uses up more battery power than hibernation.

I hope this has been helpful to you and you should help keep our world a green world.
