When it comes to international payments in Nigeria, Western Union money transfer service is probably the most popular as it allows people in Nigeria to receive money in minutes from their friends, relatives and partners from all over the world.
Western Union is an international payment service that allows people from countries across the world to send money to people across borders seamlessly and receivers easily get paid at banks or agents at no extra charge on their side. In Nigeria, it is more popular and common for people in countries like USA, UK, Spain, Japan, Canada and other developed countries to send money to their relatives and friends in Nigeria

How the process works
- The sender sends money to you in Nigeria using western union
- Sender informs the receiver in Nigeria and gives the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) and test question
- You may confirm the status online by visiting nigeria.westernunion.com and using the MTCN, sender's first name and last name
- You go to a bank (or western union agent) where you have an account to request for payment
- You fill in the slip given to you and enter the sender's details including the MTCN and test question
- You provide the bank with your account number and valid form of Identification such as International passport, National id or driver's license
- Bank teller searches for the transfer
- You enter your 4 digit secret pin on the keypad and click enter
- Payment shows up as success
- The teller then pays you in foreign currency or Nigeria naira according to your options and without any charges

What you will need to receive western union payment in Nigeria
1. MTCN
2. Test question
3. Bank account or attestation from someone that has one
4. Valid for of identification

How long does it take to get paid with western union?
As long as the payment has been sent and you can confirm with your MTCN online, applying for payment at the bank and getting paid can take between 5 to 60 minutes depending on the bank's customer service delivery speed.

Note
- You don't have to pay for receiving or any other bank charges
- You can choose to be paid in foreign currency such as USD or GBP
- New rules by CBN require a bank account or attestation from someone with one before payment can be made to beneficiary.
