Earlier, I wrote a post on people copying content from my blog and without permission too. The worst thing that can happen to an online writer is when his work is being copied and published on other sites without his content and yet such fake pages appear above his page on Search engine results. What does a website publisher do when he notices that some of his unique posts have been copied onto other sites?

It would have been better if such lazy people at least copied about 50% of the post and still cite a reference or link to the original post but it seems a couple of Nigerian website owners seem too lazy to be bothered about copyright issues.

Well, as I mentioned, there are a lot of things you could do but in this case, I want to talk about Filing a DMCA notice to Google

As we know, Google is currently the largest search engine in the world and if Google penalizes such sites for publishing unoriginal content, then it would be a good hammer. This is especially

Steps to File a DMCA notice to Google
- Go to https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/dmca-notice?pli=1&hl=en
- You need to be logged in
- Enter your first name and last name
- Describe the copyright issue
- Enter the url of the authorized work
- Enter the location of infringing material
- Accept the sworn statements
- Enter your signature and date
- Submit your application

After you have submitted the notice, Google normally responds in a couple of days and they may remove such fake site from their search results.

Any success?
Well, I filed one DMCA notice already to Google and one of such sites have already been removed. I'm filing a second one already to a higher number of sites that have been stealing my work and without any acknowledgment.

Note:
You shouldn't file a DMCA notice if you don't really own the right to content published on your website because if the original owner files a counter suit in court, you may end up paying for the damages your original notice may have caused so when using this tool, make sure that the content really was created by you.

It seems more and more people are republishing my articles without my consent so I keep filing more noticies with Google from time to time. Here is an insight on how I sent one today.

Went to https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/dmca-notice?pli=1&hl=en
You need to be logged in
- Enter your first name and last name: Felix Okoli
- Described the copyright issue: Site content are not original as they were copied and republished without the consent of the original publisher
- Enter the url of the authorized work: url here
- Enter the location of infringing material: url here
- Accept the sworn statements: Accepted
- Enter your signature and date: 12/11/2011
- Submitted my application

I've had some success with previous cases of copying I've had but I'm not sure if it had anything to do with this DMCS notice. I just noticed that Google has been relisting my site on top and even punishing sites that copied my site content. Nice.
