I've already been using Dreamweaver FTP to upload files to my website using the same username and password and nothing really had changed. I was just surprised today when I tried publishing some files or at least viewing some folders when I got this error - Your login username or password is incorrect. But it was correct and I tried re-entering the actual password and username in the login box just to correct any errors assuming I mistakenly changed the details but it was the same problem.
Now this was a username and password I normally could use to login to my web hosting account from the controlpanel website but it wasn't working for my Dreamweaver ftp platform. So i tried to look elsewhere to solve the problem rather than just the login information.
How I finally solved the problem
- I checked use passive FTP box in the remote info details for site settings
- I also checked the Use Firewall box
- I now tested the connection and it worked seamlessly.
Now since the problem did not come from incorrect username and password, I wonder why Bluehost's server was telling me that was the source of the problem. They should have as well told me to check those boxes and I would have solved this problem ages ago.
If you are having this problem, just ensure that your login details are correct and then check the boxes I mentioned above and it should work. If you're still having problems,, then you should contact bluehost online support.
