Just received my Amazon Kindle Fire HD in Nigeria

Remember I wrote a post on how I ordered for the new Amazon Kindle fire from Nigeria and was expecting shipping from my US address in a few days? Well the Kindle HD has arrived and I just got it from a DHL delivery guy.

It came in a rectangular package and was fairly light. I opened it and saw the small Kindle hd fire and it was even lighter than expected. It was sealed in a special package by Amazon and the box also had the standing back cover which I also ordered.

I ordered for it with my Amazon account and a Nigerian issued Visa card on the 18th of September and within 7 days, I have received it already.

Shipping cost within the USA:
It cost me around $9 to ship it to my US address in America and it took about 2 days.

Shipping cost to Nigeria:
For shipping to Nigeria, it cost me about $60 since it was almost 1kg and required special handling. Within 5 days, I'm getting it in Lagos Nigeria.

How does it look?
Well, it looks marvelous and I wouldn't have bought it if not for the Amazon brand I've gotten to trust. It's a quality device that can do a lot. They were only 3 items in the DHL box which were the Kindle HD, a USB connector, standing cover and my Invoice

How it works
- I powered the device by pressing the power button by the right side
- It powers up and scans for wireless networks. It detected my MTN Hynet connection but I didn't connect yet.
- I was able to browse through the buttons which were touch buttons
- You can open content that are either on the cloud or stored locally by choosing either cloud or device.
- The offline mode allows you to watch videos, listen to music, view pictures and so on.
- You can also transfer files from your computer to the Kindle using the usb connector

Features
- It has a powerful wifi signal detector as I was able to detect mine from a far range
- It has two stereo speakers at the back
- It has about 16gb of internal memory

I am not really a fan of reading books on a tablet rather I'm ok with just browsing the web and watching movies on my Kindle.

Some problems
- I tried copying some mp4 and other movies but kindle was not able to open them
- I also copied an mp3 file and it didn't detect it.
+ I was only able to copy and view pictures from my computer to Kindle.

I'm still going to look into that issue of copying movie files to Kindle later on
Update: My copied files are intact. I only had to access them by going to apps > Personal videos in order to play them. Supported files are mp4, mp3, 3gp as far as I know.

What file formats does Kindle Fire HD really support?
According to a research I did, it supports the following files:

Audio: AAC, MP3, MIDI, OGG, WAV,
Video: MP4, VP8
