As a Search Engine Optimizer, one of my things I do include finding out what people really want. When I say, "what people want", I'm referring to what people are searching for on the internet.

Ever before you've launched your online business or website, people have always had their basic wants and as time goes on, they've also developed some secondary wants.

In the internet work, one way people express their wants is shown in the queries they make on the internet and search engines and websites have the ability to keep a record or most of these queries.

Knowing what people want or the type of queries they make can help you drive more traffic to your website and make meet your goal.

Two ways to drive more traffic to your site
- Rising: Rising to the top of search results for which you currently feature
- Diving: Diving into newer areas you were never featured in search results


One of the tools I use for getting to know what people want is Google Insights/Trends. This is a platform by which Google offers webmasters more info on what people are searching for over a period of time as well as the geographical area where such queries are coming for. It a free tool for doing keywork research and knowing the intensity of such queries.

You can use that tool to know what kind of keywords you can use to optimize for your website in order to increase it's traffic. Knowing new keywords can help you to "dive" into more areas and increase your website traffic over a period of time.

If you also wanted to improve your website's traffic, another way to do this is to optimize your current traffic by consolidating on the traffic you already have. You can do this by first of all knowing the queries that are currently bringing you traffic and work on them. You can do this by making use of Google webmaster tools as well as your web hosting's traffic logs. With the knowledge you get from your current site logs, you can work on your current website's traffic by rising in the search results for keywords you already rank for. All you need to do is create new content that adds to your reputation.

Knowing what people are currently searching for can help you work on your website's traffic in the long run.
