How I bought Amazon gift cards with a Naira Visa card

It so happened that when I didn't have funds in my USD Visa card but wanted to buy some credit for Amazon gift cards, the next readily available option was to buy it with a naira visa card.

Actually I don't prefer using a Naira visa or mastercard for making payments in foreign currencies. This is due to the higher exchange rate/charges attached to the card when compared to using a USD visa card. Besides, the exchange rate wasn't within my control.

Anyway, since it was urgent, I decided to buy a gift card worth $10 on Amazon using my Naira visa card in order to make some payments for digital content. Here is how it all went down.

I proceeded to Amazon.com and logged into my account using my internet connection and no need for changing my ip address.

I checked out the gift card section and ordered for a gift card by email to be delivered to my email address.

Later I proceeded to making payment and added my Visa card details - number, expiry date and billing name including my Nigerian address. Since I had already activated my Visa card for internet use by changing my I-Pin on an ATM, it was ready to be used on the internet.

After making payment, the transaction successfully sailed through and I got an email containing my transaction and another email containing the Amazon gift card details.

I then clicked on the redeem button and succeeded in adding the credit to my gift card balance. Withing a short while I also got an sms from my Nigerian bank that my account has been credited with the sum of N1814.48 for the $10 card I ordered on Amazon.

Well as you can see what I'm saying, I got charged more than N1800 just for a $10 gift card on Amazon. Ordilarily, If I had used my USD visa card for purchasing it, I would have at least bought it at N1600 or a bit more but not N1800.

Anyway, the Naira visa card did the job and I was able to purchase an email gift card from Amazon by just paying in Naira from my savings account. It is convenient and saves you time.
