I visited the domain name of a website I'd say is one of the top tech blogs in Nigeria today and was surprised by what I saw. It read, this domain name has expired and this was for Techloy.com.

Techloy is one of the few websites I've seen that focuses on Technology in Nigeria and it sure has a lot of traffic with good Alexa ranking and has won tech blog of the year at the Nigerian blog awards.

Based on what I noticed, Techloy is hosted by Hostgator and the domain name is registered with Enom. The domain was first registered on November 10, 2010 and expired annually by November 10. It seems someone may have forgotten to renew it or something like that and so Hostgator has already shut down the site.

I wouldn't have expected that a reputable blog like Techloy would actually have something like domain name expired or a 404 error displaying on it's site as it did a few days ago. It seems some in-house work needs to be done on the site so that things like this don't keep recurring since it gives a bad image to the brand.

Techloy is a reputable brand when it comes to tech blogging and they ought to do more to ensure that their site remains active not just in text but in efficiency. When people visit blogs like Techloy, they're not meant to see 404 errors or expired domain name/hosting. I still wonder why a growing number of Nigerian blogs which are supposedly tech blogs should be having problems with domain name renewals and web hosting. Ogbongeblog is another blog I noticed that is still having problems with its free blogger hosting.

I believe Techloy being the respectable brand that we know would soon rectify this issue soon since it has more to lose from an expired domain name. Some domain names are never meant to expire you know?
