In Nigeria, the craze for the latest tablets from the USA never stops. Devices like the iPad from Apple have always found a ready market in Africa's most populous nation particularly among the rich and emerging middle class in cities like Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.

The Apple iPad offers much more than other computer tablets as it's a portable device capable of browsing the web, taking pictures, connecting to 3G and Wireless connections as well as being a thing of class. You don't see everyone clutching an Apple iPad in Nigeria and for those who do, a sort of public respect comes along with.

From the well to do young undergraduates to the young tech-savvy business executives and elite, everyone knows what an iPad is and probably already has one or wants to. The problem with Apple's iPad used to be the high price but with the recent ready availability in the market and price crashes, it would soon find an equilibrium price

Another seemingly hot device in Nigeria's market is the blackberry as it's mostly used by young people to stay connect to their friends on twitter, facebook, 2go and blackberry chats but if you'd ask most of them to choose between a blackberry and an Apple iPad, they'd mostly go for the latter.

So how much does an Apple iPad really cost in Nigeria? It really depends on where you buy it from as price tend to vary from market to market and from seller to seller.

Buying online at the Official Apple store:

Well, if we had to convert the the price of getting it from US stores like Apple's, the iPad mini, iPad 2 and iPad with retina display all go for as low as N52,640N63,849 and N79,840 respectively when using an exchange rate of N160 to a dollar. The only other thing we'd need to consider when buying an Apple iPad online from Nigeria is that of final shipping to Nigeria which may cost an additional N10,000 via DHL. You only would just need a payment card and a US shipping address to buy directly from Apple who would offer you free shipping to that US address. The benefits of getting your iPad directly from the US is that you can get it cheaper and get a free customized engraving.

Buying from Etisalat Nigeria:

Etisalat Nigeria, a GSM company is an authorized Apple reseller and they offer an iPad package that comes with their internet service and a 2 year warranty. The iPad 2 and iPad 3 from Etisalat Nigeria as at this time goes for N110,000 and N130,000 respectively. The good thing is that they are readily available if you want it today and you can simply pay in naira.

Other GSM networks

Companies like MTN and Glo also have their own iPad package that you can use wiht their microsim card. Their prices are not listed as as the time of writing this post but you can always call their customer service or visit any close outlet to get more details.

At popular Tech stores

Stores like Slot limited do offer low prices and as at this time, their iPad starts from N100,000 for the APPLE IPAD 3 4G+WIFI 16GB. If you want higher storage, the prices goes higher.
