Adbrite, an online ad exchange company has been reportedly shut down yesterday, February 1, 2013 due to non-profitability. I guess that what happens when a going concern can no longer meet its obligations.

Adbrite operated as an online advertising and publishing platform that allowed advertisers as well as publishers buy and sell online ads in a variety of formats such as banners, texts, in-text links, full page, pop ups and inter-stital ads. One of the best performing ads for me as a publisher was the inter-stital full page ads cause they earn more on impressions.

I personally had an experience with Adbrite some years ago and after having accumulated over $300 and re-enabled my account for payment, they just disabled my account. They still owed me about $369.

Adbrite was a USA based advertising and publishing network with users from around the world. Her absence in cyberspace would be felt and for some, it would be a blessing.

Are there other alternatives to AdBrite? I would say there are lot of them actually which are even better than Adbrite but I'll just list a few of them that I've had dealings with:

- AD:Dynamo
- Bidvertiser
- Clicksor
- Google Adwords/Adsense
- Chitika

With Adbrite out of the picture, I guess there would less competition in the advertising market.
