Before going further into the topic - how to blog, we need to know what blog really is.
What is a Blog?
A blog comes from the word weblog. It can be defined as a web that allows the user to add content to it. A blog is an update to a web site and this can be any content in form of texts, pictures, videos and other web media.
Now blogging is taking different forms such as traditional blogging and Vlogging.

How do we Blog?
Well, to start a blog, you would need the following:
1. A Website or platform for blogging
2. The blogging software
3. Knowledge
4. The Passion

You can set up your own blog by getting a domain name and then hosting it for an annual fee. This is the best way to own as it allows you exclusive ownership of your website and efforts. Blogging on a free platform can have its challenges and your account can even be deleted in one day without warning but if you own the domain and hosting, it would rarely be banned else you can always transfer to another host or even host it yourself.

Blogging software
There are 2 major blogging software bloggers use in blogging and these are:

- Wordpress
- Blogger

However, there are other blogging platforms apart from these two and other more professional bloggers tend to use them.
Once you have decided on which one to use, check for the system requirements and make sure that your web host supports it and just follow the instructions to install it.

Knowledge
To be a blogger, you need to have knowledge of what you want to write about. It could be in technology, education, business, online marketing, mobile phones and so on, you just need to choose one that you have a better knowledge about before you start writing about it.

The Passion
Starting a blog can be sweet at the first time but continuously updating them is the real key to keep your site well ranked by search engines which have the potential to bring the best traffic to your site. Responding to comments which users make on your blog can also help bring ore traffic to your site and this can help keep your blog more lively even if your original post is old. You also need to keep a tab on current knowledge about a blogged topic and write an update on it.

If you have all these things, I think you are well on your way to starting a successful blog

I'm happy to have found this write-up. It has opened my eyes to what I have been searching for. One question I would like to ask is how viable or profitable is blogging in Nigeria? Can someone really make sufficient income blogging around Nigerian topics?

I started blogging around December last year but right now I'm working and have not had time for my blog. The thing is that I just don't know what to blog about. I currently have no country in focus. I just blog about technology but I have not been having much visitors or making money from it. I guess what lacks now is the passion and I just don't need some kind of inspiration

@Arinze, I think it is quite possible to make a living in Nigeria focusing on just the Nigerian audience. You should know that Nigeria is the highest internet user in Africa so just do a research on which keywords are driving them to the net and you could find it worthwhile.
One problem new blogs might have is that they would not rank high in google due to the fact that they are new. Keep a job or if you have sufficient capital, then start blogging as a profession until your blog becomes very popular or goes viral.

@Henry, I think you need to focus on what you really want to blog about - Choose a niche. If it is about Social life, technologies, phones, webs, cars and so on. Blog about the things you are already doing or knowledgeable about. If possible keep a journal of your work and blog about it but you don't have to reveal any sensitive detail about your work. Since you are working, it would be Ok if you just blog on weekends.

1. Lots of Good Content
2. Paid advertising such as Google adwords
