If you have got a blog that already has lots of great content but still wondering why it is not getting as much traffic as you would want then perhaps there are still a couple of things you could still do to increase traffic to your blog or website.

What drives traffic to a blog?
First of all, there are a couple of things that drive traffic to a blog but of all those things I think the most important source is search engines. People across the world do a lot of searches using popular search engines and if you have a new blog that has not received any kind of offline promotions or sort, then the only way for people to discover your blog is by means of a search engine. Search engines are an important source of a blog's traffic and you shouldn't overlook it when looking to drive traffic to your blog. Other sources of blog traffic could be:

- Inbound links
- Offline advertising
- Celebrity traffic
- Social networks
- Direct traffic

Optimizing Search engine Traffic
A sure way to keep driving traffic to your blog is by means on search engines and the best way to get more visibility on search results on such platforms is by optimizing your blog. Blog optimization for search traffic has a lot to do with your site content and the more you blog, the more visibility your site gets on search results.
In order to be able to do this you would need to put in more relevant keywords in blog posts and make your posts more comprehensive and exhaustive if need be. A fellow blogger who I look up to when it comes to lengthy blog posts is stevepavlina.com and some of his post are up to 2000 words and search engines love that a lot. One key about publishing blogs for better search engine traffic is that it really has to do with content that you have and inbound links coming to your blog but it has more to do with your blog content. Inbound links are not exactly necessary as fellow bloggers would eventually link to you if your work is good and they want to cite a reference for an article.
So if you want to improve your blog's traffic from search engines, just improve on your writing style and add more relevant content and you would rise to the top.

Other ways to improve your blog's traffic

- Twitter: Just use a plugin and connect to your blog's feed such that each time you publish a post, it gets tweeted. Twitter updates gets almost immediately updated on Google and so may actually be bringing in you more traffic than you had

- Facebook: Some bloggers make the mistake of updating their personal Facebook account with updates from their blogs. Most of your friends may not really want to listen to what your blog is about so unless your Facebook friends are friends from your blog, don't! Set up a different Facebook page like a fan page that is all about your blog and connect it to your blog's feed so that each time your blog updates, Facebook gets updated with it

- Articles: You could also drive more traffic to your blog by subcribing to article publishing networks like articlebase.com, ehow.com, hubpages.com, helium.com and others and still get paid for articles you publish there. The good thing about this sites is that they have a huge resource of published content and with little effort, you could drive much larger traffic to your site. The good thing about such sites is that you could still use your Google adsense, Abrite, Affiliate or Amazon ads on them and get paid for it while at the same time adding an inbound link to your main blog.
